Before I came to lifework I was unemployed and had never work before in my life. I had recently served a custodial sentence which meant that my goal of joining the army was out of the question. My partner was pregnant and this made me want to get a job even more and change my life for the better but I had no idea on where to start.
The very first time I went to lifework I found everyone that I had met was polite, friendly and very welcoming. I met my coach who seemed really supportive and didn’t judge me, even when I told her about my previous convictions. I was told about all the things I could do there to improve my chances of getting a job and this made me feel more hopeful about the future.
I quickly started attending lifework for general and one to one job search sessions with the employment team. When the employment team told me about a job vacancy with a large supermarket I was excited and it felt good that someone thought I would be able to do it. Some of the staff stayed behind after hours to help me complete the application form; they really went the extra mile for me.
Shortly after sending off my application form, I got an interview. The staff at lifework were just as excited as I was when I told them about my interview and they offered me loads of advice and support for the interview. I couldn’t believe my luck when I was offered the job!
I have recently finished the training and started the job. I’m now looking forward to the arrival of my baby and have a more positive outlook for my family and our future.
