I worked all my life and found myself unemployed at the age of 50. I had been unemployed for about 2 years when I was referred to lifework by the jobcentre. I didn’t want to attend my appointment with lifework but the jobcentre explained to me that it was mandatory and could affect by jobseekers allowance claim. Although I knew I had to attend; I felt I could manage on my own and that the referral would be a waste of time.
When the day came for me to attend lifework I started to feel a little apprehensive about meeting the people there and started to think about what the staff would expect of me. As soon as I arrived I realised that I was worried for nothing because all the staff were very friendly and supportive. I met with my coach on the first day and we talked about why I was referred and how staff at lifework would support me in finding a job. My coach explained to me the importance of having a CV and offered to create one for me as I had never had one before. The staff also help me put together cover letters for the jobs that I was applying for. I thought that job searching at lifework would be very boring but I ended up really enjoying it!
With the support from lifework my job search activity increased and I was even getting interviews from companies that I had applied to. I secured a job as a fork lift truck driver and have been employed for about 9 months now. I really enjoy working and having been unemployed for over 2 years, it was a huge relief to be back in employment. lifework definitely helped to turn my life around.
